Our Story

Toes2Tailwas founded in 2020 in the mist of the pandemic.  Our founder Jax Mitchell had worked with dogs since 2017 when he began his mentorship under Marybeth Esser of Fireside Kennel. He has had a passion for animals so a career with dogs seemed natural. Jax even shadowed a vet and took an animal care class. During this his studies helped him to understand nature vs nurture effect on behavior, the foundations of obedience training and how to build a relationship with a dogs.  Jax attempted to try college for graphic design but when push came to shove in 2020, Jax rejoined the dog scene. He worked at several daycares under other handlers. These days included running groups as large as 100 dogs alone, being responsible for a multi-species daycare all on his own on all levels, dog bathing, trims, ear cleaning, plucking and nail trims. Threw this he ran Toes2tail as more of a side business. The tipping point came in 2023. After several attempts to work for other kennels and watching them mistreat, mishandle and overbook themselves, Jax realized what he needed to do. Jax quite his full time job to devote himself to developing a daycare that truly cared for its clients- from Toes2Tail! Our goal is to provide the resource the community needs, a care professional dedicated to knowing their clients, continuing support, dedicated to continuing their education. We hope to establish an official 501(c)(3) that provides service dogs to low income individuals and provides low cost training for reactive dogs. We are also working on a second 501(c)(3) named Kisses From Cali dedicated to getting cats out of the streets and into homes that won't let them roam.
