Rotten originally came to the program as a potential Service Work client. His owner at the time had bought him from a negligent owner who bred her boxers together often without any testing, titling or even papers. It wasn't long before it became apparent that she couldn't afford to keep him. Rotten spent the first 5 months of his life with no vet care and no socialization. We were asked to take him in and he stayed at Toes2Tail for a about 6 months before placement under co-ownership with his handler. Rotten has many wonderful traits that would make him a stellar service dog. He is very handler oriented, food motivated, overly confident, naturally very neutral toward dogs and his environment. Now the bad. Rotten has signs of early hip dysplasia and genetic excitement peeing. As such it wouldn't work to train him for public access. Instead he is now training to work as an at home autism assistance dog for his handler. He will eventually alert to melt downs and respond accordingly, interrupt harmful behaviors like picking, ect. This will allow him an outlet for his drive without the concern injury due to stress or breaking the ADA by allowing him in public.  He is a high energy dog in need of an outlet and we and his vet have agreed this is the best path for him going forward.
